Asin Is a Trained Bharatanatyam Dancer

We have seen Asin dancing on-screen but very few people known that Asin is a trained Bharatanatyam dancer and started learning the art when she was barely three years old. Vipul Shah decided to include this aspect of her personality on screen for London Dreams. Asin’s character in the film is very close to her real life. The actress plays a conservative South Indian girl who has grown up on Carnatic music and Bharatanatyam. Vipul Shah agrees, “That’s true, Asin’s character has a lot of shades of real life. She is a trained classical dancer and like all youngsters, listens to rock and pop music. In fact, in one of our promos, Ajay Devgn calls her Sita and Geeta… as she is in her real life too.” Telugu Actress Gossips

I’m not carnivorous - Asin

Asin is unamused at media reports that have said that he is an avid meat eater. “Hello,” says the Southern sensation, who is now a Bollywood hottie. “I do eat meat occasionally but on most days i have a simple vegetarian meal. When I’m home in Kerala, I cherish my fish curry and rice. However, to say I can’t do without meat even for a day is an exaggerated fact. I’m not carnivorous.” Asin also clarifies that he wasn’t approached by PETA to be their ambassador, so reports that said that they changed their mind about her because they discovered her meat eating habits is also false. “Where do such reports come from?” asks Asin. Well, rumours and rejoinders are a part of the celebrity trail, aren’t they?

Asin: Kerala Is Better Than London And Paris

Asin has been shooting in places like Paris and London for her next film, but the actress wants to holiday in her hometown. “I had promised myself that I would take a break after Ghajini. However, London Dreams began almost immediately. Though London and Paris are absolutely stunning places, there’s no place like Kerala. If I do get a break, I’d like to go back home for a holiday,” she says. Not just that, the actress also feels that with such different climates, there’s no better country that one can holiday in. “I’d love to explore the lovely places in our country before venturing out elsewhere,” she adds.

What Asin Says About Name 'Asin' !

Having stormed Telugu and Tamil cinema industy Asin has now moved to Hindi films to conquer bollywood.

"I guess I'm lucky. But yes I feel hugely welcome in Mumbai. I don't know why filmmakers are showing so much interest in me. I guess they must've seen my work in Tamil and Telugu."

"Thanks for pronouncing my name correctly. Most people tend to give it an Islamic spin. 'Asin' is coined from Sanskrit and English. It means 'sinless' like 'Amala'….without blemish. I hope I live up to my name in Mumbai."

"I can manage hindi quite well. And I don't have a thick South Indian accent. In these days of globalization I don't think language is a barrier.

"And I'm only looking for good roles regardless of the language. I'm interested in films in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi and any other language as long as the projects are exciting. I look at the script, then the role, director, banner and finally my co- star."

"I guess I'm pretty normal and grounded. Because of the so-called stardom down South people expect me to behave in a particular way. And they're disappointed when I don't."

The rumors of Asin doing a Tamil film have been in the grapevine for some time. When contacted Asin in Mumbai, who was getting ready for her London Dreams, with Salman Khan and Ajay Devgan, she said, "No, I have not signed any film down south. As of now, for the next six months, I am very busy,I have to complete London Dreams and the promotions of Ghajini will start from October.I had to opt out of Priyadarshan's film due to lack of dates this year."

The buzz is that Asin may be doing another Hindi film, with a top director and hero in February and later in 2009 she has signed up to do 19 Steps produced by Warner Brothers and directed by Bharath Bala. She simply has no dates at the moment to do films down south.

South Stars Asin, Shriya And Genelia Rise On Bollywood

This year, Bollywood earnings have gone south, and south stars Asin, Shriya Saran and Genelia D'Souza have gone to Bollywood! While the sun still rises in the east, Bollywood female stars have started to rise in the south.

This year, Bollywood earnings have gone south, and south stars Asin, Shriya Saran and Genelia D'Souza have gone to Bollywood! While the sun still rises in the east, Bollywood female stars have started to rise in the south.

Genelia D'Souza

Genelia D'Souza, 20, the youngest of the there southern lasses, has made an impressive comeback to Bollywood with Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na, after a lack luster performance weeks earlier in Mere Baap Pehle Aap.

Mumbai born and brought up, Genelia started her film career as a 15-year-old in Tujhe Meri Kasam (2003), along with Ritesh Deshmukh. Her next release the same year was the Tamil film Boys, directed by south heavyweight Shankar. It was a huge success, which prompted Genelia to take a break from Bollywood and establish herself firmly as a star in Tamil, Telugu and Kannada language films.

Genelia returned to Bollywood with Masti (2004), which top lined Ajay Devgan and Vivek Oberoi; and then again this year with Mere Baap Pahle Aap, before making it good with Jaane Tu…

Despite her young age, Genelia is now firmly established in Bollywood and equally firmly grounded in life. She is wary of skin show and wants to do films that families can enjoy.

"It's not that I will not wear short skirts or do kissing scenes, but the fine line between vulgarity and being glamorous must not be breached," she says.

Her upcoming films include Rumi Jaffery's Life Partner with Govinda, Fardeen Khan, Tusshar Kapoor, and Prachi Desai; and Anees Bazmee's It's My Life with Harman Baweja and Nana Patekar.

Asin

Dasavatharam star Asin, 26, is set to make her Bollywood debut with Ghajini, opposite Aamir Khan. Asin also tarred in the Tamil and Telugu versions of Ghajini earlier.

Asin, 22, is a Malayalee who was born and brought up in Cochin. She has now settled in Chennai.

Even before the release of Ghajini, Asin has been signed up for two more Bollywood films.

Aise Ko Taisa directed by Priyadarshan with co-stars Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty and Paresh Rawal; and London Dreams directed by Vipul Amrutlal Shah with co-stars Ajay Devgan, Lara Dutta, Salman Khan and Urmila Matondkar.

In London Dreams, Asin plays a South Indian musician in London. Explaining his choice of Asin for the role, Vipul Shah says, "I needed a proper South Indian girl speaking accented Hindi. I also required a face not seen in Bollywood. At the same time, I needed an actress, not just a looker who could sing and dance."

Shriya Saran

Shriya, 25, who was born and brought up in a Hindi speaking family, is best known for her Tamil super hit Sivaji (2007), top lining Rajnikanth. Like Genelia, she made her Bollywood debut with Tujhe Meri Kasam, and went on to act in Awarapan (2007).

She will be next seen in Apoorva Lakhia's Mission Istanbul, a taut thriller, top lining Vivek Oberoi and Zayed Khan. Shriya plays a TV journalist in the film set for release on July 25.

"The scribe is someone like Barkha Dutt…one who is there on the spot where the action is," Shriya explains.

Shriya's forthcoming films include Ek - The Power Of One directed by Sangeeth Sivan with co-stars Bobby Deol, Chunky Pandey and Nana Patekar.

Interestingly, none of the three stars plan to work in Bollywood exclusively.

"I don't know why people say Hindi film actress, Tamil film star and Telugu film artiste," wonders Shriya.

"I prefer to term them all as Indian films the language does not matter as long as the role has substance. Why not simply say an Indian film actress?" she asks!

I have started working out recently,” says Asin on the occasion of the release of the magazine.

Editor of Vogue Priya Tanna says “Vogue is committed to offer a platform to promising new faces, which is why we have Asin, the newest entrant to Bollywood, on our cover. On her beauty routine, Asin says, “My favourite brand of skincare is Uriage Eau Thermale. As for my hair, I get regular oil massages and use an intensive conditioner.” Make up is not part of Asin’s usual beauty routine. “When I’m not shooting I never wear make-up, except for eyeliner and some fruity lip balm,” she says. “I am lazy and am a complete foodie. Asin Strictly Says No To Tollywood

Asin is going places in Mumbai even before her first film hits the screens. Asin will be seen making her Bollywood debut in the much-hyped Ghajini. She has now signed two new films. Asin has agreed to star in Vipul Shah's Salman Khan-Ajay Devgan starrer London Dreams, in which she will be paired opposite Salman. She has also signed a film to be directed by Priyadarshan, opposite Akshay Kumar. This sure makes Asin one of the hottest newcomers with films opposite the big boys even before Ghajini hits the theatres.
Before shifting base to Mumbai, however, she created a different kind of stir back home in Chennai, when the parents of her maid-servant filed a police-case for the missing daughter. This led to a bit of hungama, before Asin called from Mumbai to sort matters and say that the maid was with her in Mumbai. Well, as far as Tollywood is concerned, looks like we will be missing this beauty for quite some time to come. What with her Bollywood commitments, she has said ‘no’ to all filmmakers here.
