Tamanna Taste Buds

A year ago, when Kareena Kapoor went into her size-zero phase, the Telugu film heroine took a long, hard look at her self. She discovered, to her horror, that there was enough of her to make another heroine. So she decided it was time to hit the treadmill. Telugu Movie News

Habits die hard, though, particularly in this case. Even until recently, most Telugu film heroines would start off slim and then add on layers of adipose tissue as they climbed the ladder. The higher they went the greater the accretions. Quivering, jelly-like tummies and thunder thighs were quite the norm. In fact, they were signpost of conquest in the industry. Today, that has changed.

This summer, in fact, Tollywood stars seem to be on some kind of penance. Teasing the taste buds is out, taming the appetite is in. Shunning ice cream, chocolates, burgers and other fatty foods is the new thing. Learning yoga and striking various asanas are favourite fads. In addition to, well, the daily leg shakes. Hourglass waistlines and ‘light as air’ are the new mantra.

The grapevine is buzzing with excited accounts of Anushka’s toned body and about how slim Hansika Motwani is looking these days. Hansika’s cheeks are no longer chubby; a forced image makeover has done the magic. But it’s not that she did acquired her sexy body overnight. Highly disciplined diet and exercise regimen route did the trick, clarifies the starlet, who made a dream debut with Desamuduru.

The story isn’t much different in the case of Anushka Shetty of Arundhati fame. For all those who wonder how she managed to get into short skirts and bikinis in Billa, the actress herself bares it all: “Yoga. Also I hit the gym regularly.” That not just paid off, she is even getting “exciting roles now”.

Even formerly heavyweight actress Namita has joined the fitness brigade. “Flab is ugly. I don’t think the audience likes a heroine with chubby cheeks and flab around her tummy. Slim-and-trim heroines look far smarter on screen. My fans went gaga after seeing me in Billa! Even my family is excited about the way I look, a lot better than my flabby self in Sontham. Now I am motivated to lose more weight,” she says. “For Billa, I lost seven kg in a month! Anushka taught me yoga and I do suryanamaskar every day.

Tamanna, who shot to fame with her portrayal of a college girl in Happy Days, is equally conscious of her figure and looks. She is a busy babe in both the Tamil and Telugu film industries. Telugu Movie News

According to her, consistency is important. She makes sure she works out for 30 minutes to an hour every day.

However, Priyamani, the dusky beauty who entered the Telugu film industry with Yevare Athagadu and won the National Award for her performance in Tamil film Paruthiveeran, begs to differ. “No. I don’t believe in size zero. I believe in being healthy.”

“One has to eat well and enjoy life. If you crave for size zero, the effects show on a lustreless face. I would like to be like what I am. My glamour secret is nothing but keep smiling always,” Priyamani says. Finally, Kamna Jethmalani. She's been around for some time now and from music albums in Hindi to a couple of Tollywood BO-busters, she’s done it all. But somehow her career hasn’t really taken off. She persisted, though, and got rich dividends from Ranam and Samanyudu. For both she shed weight.

The trend is not restricted to actresses. Even the guys are prepared to sweat it out for a better shape. While actors like Allu Arjun, Prabhas and Nitin have built up six-pack abs in recent times, others like NTR Jr and Vishnu have shed a considerable amount of weight. They look leaner and fitter than ever before. “In today’s busy world, physical exercise is essential for everyone and I would urge my

colleagues too to take work-outs every day,” Prabhas says.

Tollywood’s anti-binging squad is surely fighting to prove who’s the slimmest of them all. May the best body win!
