Telugu Film Unit Says They Were Attacked In Kashmir

The unit of Telugu film ‘Bangaru Babu’ claimed they were pelted with stones by a mob during shooting of the film in Jammu and Kashmir. The unit returned from the Kashmir Valley Thursday.

‘A group of protesters wanting the valley to be made part of Pakistan threatened us while we were shooting on the Srinagar-Leh highway. The mob began pelting us with stones. But a unit of the Indian Army was at hand to chase them away and whisk us back to the airport,’ the film’s hero Jagapathi Babu told reporters here.

‘I have still not stopped shivering from the harrowing experience,’ added actress Mira Jasmine - the film’s female lead, a day after returning via New Delhi.

The film’s director and union minister Dasari Narayan Rao was not present during the incident, according to publicists.

Kashmir is under President’s rule following the Congress government being reduced to a minority recently. A wave of violent protests has marred the state following the grant of land to the Amarnath shrine and its withdrawal.
